Hi guys,
new here to the forum, but I have had my Engl for 2 years now and I have never changed the tubes. I contaced Engl and the tubes they carry are very expensive and hard to get in America. I would have to go through Velvet Distribution (the distrubuter for Engl). My questions is what would be similar sounding tubes that are a different brand? I think they said their tubes were re-branded TAD tubes; not sure I can't remember. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
A lot of Engl users like JJ in their Engls (including me), so I will suggest to buy JJ tubes for your blackmore. Check out www.eurotubes.com

Yes, ENGL uses rebranded tubes (from TAD). Sometimes they use JJs, sometimes chinese.
If you want the same tubes, please make a foto and post it here. Maybe we can make out the original brand.
(we can if the foto has good quality and the resolution is high enough)

I also suggest to buy JJ tubes. My advice is to keep away of Chinese tubes, don't buy them.

plates - Glimmerscheibe (mica in English? ), anyway I think both tubes are different enough to identify them.

doesn't engl use sovtek 5881 in the blackmore?

I also have a blackmore with the stock tubes in powersection. Preamp section is:
- Tungsol ECC83
- JJ ECC83
- JJ ECC83
- Philips JAN ECC81

Love the sound of that preamp configuration.
